Medical Image Storage: Common Storage Features
PACS solutions or medical image storage and sharing solutions are designed to be highly functional. That is why most service and solution providers are adding advanced features to the solutions they are offering. However, you still need to make sure that the basic storage features are provided in order to maximize the benefits of using PACS as part of your diagnostic workflow.
The PACS solution you plan on using must be able to acquire diagnostic images directly from different diagnostic tools and modality without the need for manual interference. It is certainly the best way to go since you don’t have to worry about manually cataloguing each diagnostic image captured by the diagnostic tool.
You also need to make sure that the medical image storage solution you are using allows information to be retrieved easily. Even though most of the available systems are designed to be very user friendly, some PACS solutions are actually quite complicated to use; this will make image retrieval rather more difficult to do.
Archiving is another features needed, so you need to check if the PACS solution you plan on getting has the ability to archive old diagnostic images automatically and store them in a separate server.
